CUC History

Soldiers’ Memorial Chapel

Origins

On May 9th, 1976 the Soldiers’ Memorial Chapel at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis was dedicated.  It was the successor to all Chapels of Fort Benjamin Harrison and the only Soldiers’ Memorial structure ever erected within Historic Fort Benjamin Harrison.

Founded in 1996

When Fort Benjamin Harrison closed in 1996 the members of Soldiers’ Memorial Chapel went many directions, but a faithful and hearty nucleus persevered for two years with interim pastors, and founded Christians United Church.

In 1999 Rev. James McKinney, a World War II Marine Corps veteran, assumed pastoral duties after which our congregation grew steadily.

In 2011 Dr. Charles McDaniel, a retired Army Chaplain with civilian ministry, became the Senior Pastor at CUC with a vision of leading the church in ministry to the community.

Soon after Rev. Ray Price joined CUC and began assisting with caring for the flock.

New Beginning; 2012

In May 2012 Christians United Church moved from the Soldiers’ Memorial Chapel to it’s present location in the Warren Township area of Indianapolis.  We moved with a great excitement and expectation of welcoming new members into our family from the Warren Township community.

In mid 2012 Ray Price became Associate Pastor, expanding his role in teaching God’s Word and strengthening the bonds of love within our family.

In May 2015 Charles McDaniel resigned and Ray Price became the Senior Pastor.
